Vaccine Update
|
All flu vaccines this year are combo flu/H1N1 vaccines, none of which will be offered individually.
It is recommended that children ages 6 months to 8 years receiving a flu vaccine for the first time receive 1 dose and then a booster dose 4 weeks later to provide adequate immunity. Then, they will just need to continue to receive an annual booster..
- If a child ages 6 month – 8 years received only 1 flu vaccine in the past, they will require 2 combo flu/H1N1 vaccines this year.
- If a child ages 6 month – 8 years received 2 flu vaccines in the past, they will require 1 combo seasonal flu/H1N1 vaccine this year.
- If a child ages 6 month – 8 years did not receive a H1N1 last year, they will require 2 combo flu/H1N1 vaccines this year even if they have received 2 in the past of the seasonal flu.
- If a child ages 6 month – 8 years received only 1 H1N1 last year, they will only need to receive 1 combo seasonal flu/H1N1 vaccine this year as long as they received 2 seasonal flu vaccines in the past.
- If a child ages 6 month – 8 years received 2 H1N1 vaccines last year, they will require only 1 combo seasonal flu/H1N1 vaccine this year as long as they received 2 seasonal flu vaccines in the past.
- Children ages 9 years and up will require just a yearly seasonal combo flu/H1N1 vaccine regardless of how many of each they received in previous years.
